Any advice on beginners vintage cameras?

Postby sama1998 » Mon 15 July 2013 / 08:43 am

Hello everyone! I am new to camera collecting and using vintage cameras. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on cool cameras to get. I already have a sx-70 model 1 and two other 70's cameras. I would also love any advice anyone has to offer. Thanks!!!

What a cool question. I don't know where you are but here in USA we have yard sales and tag sales. I often pick up old rangefinders and folding cameras usually for $5 - $10. Old Polaroids are plentiful and I was looking to collect the whole set of the folding bellows type but I ended up just sticking with the metal bodies. You seem to be interested in the 70s and SX-70 cameras. There were several cameras in the SX-70 lineup and you could look for all of them. There is a good listing on this site:

Get some Impossible Project film and start shooting your SX-70. When people see you with it they will often have a similar camera they want to get rid of. Many times people just give me a camera when they know I like them. When you pick up an old camera, research it well on the internet and you will learn about those special elusive models in each series. Have fun...

First thank you for the advice! I live in the US and got all three of my current cameras at a yard sale. I have also carried my camera around and have been told that they would give me a camera. I do want to get some stuff from impossible but I just don't know if my sx-70 works yet. The other two I have gotten work perfectly but the sx-70 is much more fragile than the others. But I guess I won't know until I get the film! But I do have one question in one of the other cameras I got I found a Kodachrome-12 8mm. Magazine with side one used up. Do you happen to know a place where I can get this developed... Or is there a projector? Thank you for your response!!!

I think you are outta luck with the Kodachrome. The last lab to develop it gave up a few years ago. I think some people are developing it as B&W but not sure if that even works. I use pack film and not SX-70 but there are many people on here who do and can help you with it. Give the Impossible films a try.

Help

Postby LyraBelacqua96 » Mon 18 November 2019 / 03:33 am

Good night/morning guys, I’m a little bit sad towards something that happened to my Polaroid pictures. Since yesterday I noticed that the film had like a brown color and I immediately thought that my film expired. I tried it on another Polaroid camera I had and now the worse thing happened, some of the film got stuck on the camera and I somehow got out but the problem is that still it didn’t help a lot and it came out worse because now with those blank film that was left none of them worked and so I became discouraged because I thought it was my camera. I don’t know what to do, and I don’t know if I want to continue trying taking more pictures or just leave it like that. :( :triste:

What should I do?

tell us a little more about the camera models concerned, which film you used and how old the film was (expiry date). and maybe a picture of the bad results...
