Is the autofocus worth it??

Messagepar jarrod13 » mer. 03 mai 2017 / 13:43 pm

I'm looking into buying a 660 AF and I'm wondering how much better it is than a regular 600 series without autofocus. My concern is that if it doesn't work properly will it be a constant pain to fix and calibrate?

For the price, if it doesn't work, buy another one. Sometimes you can fix the autofocus with the help of another one so you'll have to buy another one ... And it's a pain in the ass to open, get the the replacement part, and solder it, and put it back together without rip the body or / and your finger.... Don't spend anymore than 30 bucks for this model!
My two cents...

Ok thanks. Does it really make a difference in the picture quality though to have the AF?

Also, does it take much longer to take a picture because you have to wait for it to focus or is it instant?

As long as you focus the right way at the right distance, no matter if it 's not autofocus. But with autofocus you won't get picture that are blurry because of a wrong distance , except if you shake your hand...

No need to wait, it's in milliseconds, you press, autofocus does his job, picture is taken, that's it

It can be said that it is almost instantaneous and there is no difference in picture quality between a camera with the AF or not.
Make the most of it!

Excellent, thank you! That is all great information

One more question, what do you think of buying untested cameras from eBay? Does that normally mean they don't work properly?

i own something like 30 cameras, bought on ebay or in a backyard sale, only one or two were not working, one was an easy fix, one was really dead
like i said , don't spend too much money, you won't be really disappointed in the case it doesn't work
the "best" camera, for some people, the one with the higher price on ebay, the SLR680 or SLR690, is the one known to have serious problem you can't fix by yourself, especially with the flash

I've got mine from eBay two weeks ago, so far I can't tell much so a different from a regular 600 (from the new point of a new polaroid user), AF works well, and you can always find these two cameras at a similar price range, so just go for it :P

untested camera is kinda risky, but at a low price it's worth a gamble, just set yourself a maximum for the camera and you will get what you want. Mine 660 and Onestep SE was bought untested, so far the 660 works well and SE just needs a minor fix.

Thanks for the advice!

I bought a Sun 660 AF off eBay for $30 with free shipping, can't wait to get it!
