Experience with replacement skin from eBay

Postby jarrod13 » Wed 28 June 2017 / 19:45 pm

If you've used the replacement skin sets off eBay, how well did it fit compared to the original, and how much thicker (raised up) was it?

The one I'd like to get claims it's made of real wood, has anyone else bought this one?

i have never bought from this seller, but once made a new skin myself with real wood.

material was pretty thin, but even with something a bit larger, i am pretty sure it would look great. and you don't expect wood to be that thin anyway.

if the price is ok for you, you should go for it and give it a try. and come back here with your feed-back :)

here is mine by the way:

Wow those look great! I'd love to make my own but I'm not very good at making something that looks nice.

Well I went ahead and bought it, and I'm very pleased with it. It's pretty thin and flexible, and it doesn't seem much thicker than the original leather. I was worried about the top viewfinder section because it's curved, but it stuck down in the corners nicely. I've only done the top so far because I still have to remove the bottom again to replace one more spring inside. My restoration is almost complete! Can't wait to use this guy.

hi!
funny that this topic shows up today!
I just recieved new skins from http://aki-asahi.com/store/
the guy looks like reskinning a lot of cameras.
The delivery is only 4$ worldwide
They look super good, I ordered 4 of them and he made me a discount (20% I think) plus: surprise when I oppened the package there was a fifth free skin with a note saying "free practice kit"
Would highly recommend!

I think there is also wooden skins on the website!
